41 dead and dozens injured in Kenya bus disaster

NAIROBI: At least 41 people were killed in a bus crash on Thursday west of the Kenya capital of Nairobi, the Kenyan Red Cross said.
“It is a horrible scene. Bodies are strewn all over,” traffic police official Samuel Kimaru said by telephone from the scene, near the town of Narok.
The Kenyan Red Cross confirmed 41 dead with 27 others who sustained "multiple injuries".
Due to the hilly terrain, the police and rescue workers are having a difficult time recovering all the bodies.
”We have dozens others injured and we are not certain how many, because they were taken to various hospitals," Kimaru said.
He added that officers were checking with the hospitals.
The bus was travelling from Nairobi to Homa Bay on the banks of Lake Victoria.
It was about halfway to its destination when it swerved off the road and plunged into a valley, rolling over several times before coming to a stand still.
Police officials said that all indicators of the accident point to possible speeding and overloading the vehicle.
