QUETTA: Chief of the Balochistan National Party - Mengal (BNP-M) Sardar Akhtar Mengal took oath in the Balochistan Assembly on Wednesday after an interval of 14 years from parliamentary politics, DawnNews reported.
The nationalist leader took oath three months after winning a National Assembly and Balochistan Assembly seats in the May 2013 elections.
Mengal, accompanied by another Member of Provincial Assembly of Balochistan belonging to the BNP-M Mir Hamal Kalmati, was greeted with desk-thumping by the treasury and opposition members of the provincial assembly upon his arrival.
On the occassion the BNP-M chief said that in addition to the oath of loyalty to Pakistan, oath should also be taken of loyalty to Balochistan.
Chief Minister of Balochistan, Dr Malik Blaoch, while welcoming Mengal's arrival said that both leaders shared the same destination and would make efforts to lift the province out of difficult times.
Leader of the opposition in the Balochistan Assembly, Zmarak Khan Achakzai, belonging to the Awami National party (ANP) assuring Akhtar Mengal of his complete cooperation said that both the parties (ANP and BNP-M) would work together to stabilise democracy as they had in the past.
Earlier, Sardar Akhtar Mengal had called for an end to the military operation in the restive province, release of all Baloch political prisoners and abolition of alleged death squads before the general elections.
