SLAMABAD: Pakistan has begun talks with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and is receiving benefits from the negotiations with the terrorist outfit, a top official told BBC Urdu on condition of anonymity.
The BBC said that the TTP has also confirmed preliminary talks with Islamabad. The official, who refused to elaborate on what sort of benefits Pakistan was getting through the talks, said that the government had already done its homework for negotiations.
The official said that though death of Waliur Rehman, second in command of the TTP, in a US drone attack damaged dialogue process but impact of his assassination fade away following strong efforts before resumptions of talks.
A top Taliban commander told the BBC on condition of anonymity that several issues were discussed during the talks which included stopping sectarian attacks in Pakistan and disassociation from al-Qaeda and organizations like Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.
