ISLAMABAD: The printing of ballot papers for the Aug 22
by-elections to be held in 42 constituencies of national and provincial
assemblies started on Sunday.
An official of the Election Commission of Pakistan told Dawn that the printing of 10 million ballot papers had started at the Printing Corporation of Pakistan under the supervision of ECP officers amid strict security provided by the Army.
Answering a question, he said the ECP wanted to complete the printing work before Eid, adding that in any case the process would be over by Aug 15.
The official said that the Sindh election commission had called for deployment of army men inside and outside the polling stations throughout the province. The request was under consideration, he added.
In response to another question, he said that returning officers and other staff who performed duties during the May 11 elections in these constituencies would be re-appointed for the polling duty on Aug 22.
The ECP official said the colour of ballot papers for the NA by-elections would be green, adding that it would be white for the provincial assemblies’ voting.
About 5 million voters are registered in 16 constituencies of the NA and 26 of provincial assemblies.
