Weekly inflation declines


ISLAMABAD: Weekly inflation declined by 0.59 per cent during the week ended on Aug 29 from a previous week.
The inflation, measured through Sensitive Price Index (SPI), declined in the past couple of weeks following decline in perishable products, like onions and tomatoes, suggests data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics released on Friday.
SPI monitors the price of 53 items based on the survey of 17 cities and 53 markets.
For households in the income brackets up to Rs18,001, the decline in the SPI was in the range of 0.49pc, and for households in the income basket of over Rs35,000 the inflation registered a decline of 0.61pc over the previous week.
This decline is because of decrease in prices of eight products — chicken, onions, bananas, tomatoes, gram washed, moong washed, LPG 11kg cylinder and sugar.
Price of 24 items witnessed an increase during the period under review over last year.
The food items, which registered increase in their prices are potatoes 2.22pc; egg 2.04pc; garlic 1.08pc; beef 0.99pc; beef 0.99pc; bread plain 0.95pc; wheat 0.58pc, mutton 0.55pc; gur 0.41pc; wheat flour 0.39pc; salt powdered 0.33pc; red chillies 0.28pc; rice basmati broken 0.26pc; mash washed, 0.21pc; rice irri-6 0.17pc; mustard oil 0.14pc; masoor washed, 0.03pc and veg ghee 0.02pc. In non-food items, only the price of washing soap witnessed an increase of 1.29pc; energy saver 0.55pc; bath soap lifebuoy 0.34pc; shirting 0.21pc; and lawn 0.15pc respectively.
