Judges shouldn’t give explanation of their fairness, says Asma

Judges shouldn’t give explanation of their fairness, says AsmaLAHORE: The judiciary ought not to give any justification for its verdicts and it is not appropriate for the judges to give explanation of their fairness and transparency, says former president of Supreme Court Bar Association Asma Jahangir in wake of a recent speech delivered by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar at seminar.
Addressing the media persons at the Lahore High Court on Monday, she said the titles like ‘God Father’ by the courts for the politicians could not remain unanswered. She was of the view respect could not be earned by force.
Without naming the CJP, she said they (judges) should have stated the supremacy of law and democracy walked side by side.
Ms Jahangir rejected a perception that if the parliament did not discharge its responsibilities, the judiciary would have to play its role. She said the country would survive if the institutions worked within their constitutional limits.
