CHENNAI: This Chennai based restaurant is the first in India to
recruit robots as waiters, also hyped for serving customers on a table
of two, with an average bill of 1000.
This restaurant, renamed ‘Robot’, adopted the idea from already established robotic-themed eateries in Japan.
Formerly known as MOMO, this Chennai-led restaurant located at Old Mahabalipuram Road was co-founded by Venkatesh Rajendran and Karthik Kannan.
“MOMO was quite popular among our customers for its authentic taste, but it wasn’t something out of the ordinary. After 747, I wanted to bring something new to the people,” Karthik told an Indian source about how the idea of designing a robot theme struck him.
This might not stay as the only robot themed restaurant in India as the duo intends to set up more branches and upgrade their robots, so that they can greet and receive guests, guide them to the table as well as recognize them if they come visiting again.
